Tenzin Yonten is a traditional Tibetan painter who has been part of SOLA ARTS and since the early stages of the project, and more recently has been heavily involved in SOLA ARTS ‘Connecting Cultures; Refugee Artists Collective’.
Through SOLA ARTS support, in April 2005 Tenzin was the first commissioned artist in multicultural exhibition called ‘Going Native’, which explored the effects of public identity, locality and displacement in Liverpool run by ‘Bracket This’.
Tenzin was one of five artists commissioned for the exhibition, of which another 10 + artists also took part. His painting, Buddha meditating on Liverpool, brings together both Tenzin’s backgrounds: his Buddhist Tibetan upbringing and traditional tibetan artistic practice and his Liverpool experience and more western learnt art skills (such as £D perspective and composition).
This is one of several exhibtion that SOLA ARTS has been able to enable Tenzin to take part in, in the UK and abroad. It was his first gallery commission and we intend that it will not be his last!
If you would like to find out more about Tenzin’s art work please contact SOLA ARTS.
