147 nominations were received naming 81 individual nominees as being your local Hero or Shero of L8. Of the 81 nominees 64 were eligible.
At the celebration event held on Thursday 27th July 2017 at Toxteth Town Hall the top 3 most poignant nominees were announced and had rooms in our centre named in their honour:
The Thompson Community Hall
In honour of Billy Thompson - One of the several nominator's Doreen Unwin stated "Mr William Thompson, along with myself, has been a volunteer at PRCU for 28 years. In all that time, he has never ceased to amaze me. Never once have I seen him without a smile. He goes the extra mile or 2 to help anyone he can. Bill's wife Beryl has been very ill. He has looked after her for some years through her illness and until now, Beryl has had to go into care. In all this time, Bill has found the time to come in and still volunteer. However, Bill had to be admitted to hospital himself with heart problems. He is now back at home with plenty of rest. I'm sure he will soon recover. So in my eyes, Bill is a very worthy hero. Wishing him love and luck always".
The Julienne Learning Suite
In honour of Maria Julienne - One of the several nominator's Adrian Stirland stated "I feel that Maria has given a lot back into the local community and has provided employment locally. She has always helped with my personal life and also helped me overcome many fears and pushed me to achieve everything I have in life".
The Halligan Hospitality Hub
In honour of Eileen Halligan (Jnr) - One of several nominator's Rose Cody stated "Without Eileen we would not have a Credit Union. Park Road CU has expanded to become Central Liverpool CU. Without her, a lot of people would be in financial trouble. She has helped so many people over the last 26 years".
All 64 nominees were/will be presented with a Heroes and Sheroes 2017 badge of honour. All those present at the event watched the unveiling of the Nominees Roll of Honour and it being installed for permanent and proud display in our Murphy Suite. Our thanks to all the people who took the time to nominate their Hero or Shero of L8 and for the kind words and for attending the event. Thanks to all those nominated for their grace in accepting this accolade, we are duly proud of each and every one of you for making such a difference to the lives of others in this community.
Further thanks to Louise Ellman MP for presenting the top 3 nominees with their individual Room naming plaques and all remaining Heroes and Sheroes with their badge of honour.
