REMISUS is a registered charity that provides housing, advice and practical support to asylum seekers and refugees living in Merseyside.
The organisation combines the experience of refugees and professionals, working collaboratively with other agencies, to co-ordinate all of our services.
REMISUS seeks to provide high quality housing and support services to asylum seekers and refugees. We aim to develop their independence, assisting families and individuals to participate and integrate fully into UK society.
At our office base, staff and volunteers are able to give advice and practical help on a range of subjects such as;
• Finding suitable accommodation
• Welfare benefits
• Asylum and Immigration matters
• Liaising with landlords, and advice on tenancy related issues
• Dealing with incidents of racial harassment and discrimination
• Help to access health care
Help to access education training and employment
• Interpretation and translation
• Information about the local area
• Assistance with day to day tasks such as letter writing, form-filling, bill paying, budgeting etc
This scheme addresses the problems of homelessness and vulnerability amongst refugees and their families. The service offers affordable rooms and flats for refugees to rent, couples with advice and support to help residents maintain their tenancies. Included within the programme is a ‘Floating Support’ service which offers housing related support to a limited number of local authority and housing association tenants.
Reaching Communities
We also offer capacity building support for those refugee communities that aim to deliver services to their own people, but often find this difficult to achieve. We provide advice on constitutional matters, fundraising, and information on local initiatives.
